Event Description
About Shallow Wells: After a chance encounter at a local rap & beat cypher in 2014, Kootenay locals Nate and Darian, began working on music and other collaborations, compiling the tracks for their self-released debut EP "This is a Sinking Ship" (2017), later working with producers from the Kootenay scene to release a remix album in 2019.
While working as Lookout Tower Observers for the government of Alberta, the two continued sharing the beats they were creating, recording vocals in makeshift closet recording booths, eventually settling on a shortlist of songs for their second project 'Kept The Crown'. Met with wider celebration, the duo began taking the project more seriously, learning the intricacies of pro-audio equipment and refining their live performance, which landed them a set at the renowned Wicked Woods Festival in 2024, where they made new fans and industry connections.
Recent single 'Lulllaby'(2024) was featured on Soul Roots radio, with Showland Productions remarking the track as "refreshingly dynamic, with unexpected twists that keep the audience on their toes".
Currently Shallow Wells is hard at work on refining their sound and booking local shows, planning to release a full length project in the fall of 2025.
“Envisioning a complex cobweb of human expression, Kootenay local Shallow Wells (Nate O'Hearn & Darian Troy) represent the intersection along strands called POETRY, POST-HOP, THRASH-CORE, RAVE-ESQUE, EMOTION-CUMBERANCE, CREATIVE TOIL, and WORKMANSHIP. Although drawing on many influences, the music they produce remains torn between categorical tug-of-war.
