Event Description
Calgary based indie folk bluegrass band writes modern songs with traditional instrumentation and arrangements. They consistently get audiences dancing with their disarming good vibes and infectious high energy. Their 2024 EPs Pucker and Danger, Do Not Operate both charted across Canada on campus and community radio reaching the number 5 spot on the national Folk and Roots Charts, with Pucker peaking at number 2 in Calgary on CJSW. The Sour Patch Men have played and headlined festivals around southern Alberta, including Waynestock, sharing the stage with artists such as BC/DC, Wyatt C. Lewis, Stubbs and The, Amy Nelson, Carter Felker and Boots Graham.
The Sour Patch Men's 2025 Album Second Best Band in Bowness is also a celebration of community. The album title refers to the Calgary neighbourhood that the Sour Patch Men call home, and the title track is a love-letter to that very neighbourhood as well as a tribute to the legendary Bowness band, The Bownesians, who in turn came out of a decades long hiatus to record on the track! Other notable musicians also contributed to the record, including Bowness’ rockabilly king Howlin’ Pete Cormier and Baroque-pop queen Laura Hickli, as well as the Calgary-based crackerjack Natalie Inga.
