Event Description
A Shadbolt Presentation In collaboration with Cory Weeds and Cellar Jazz
The NightCrawlers featuring Ale Avery Nuñez
Armed with a timeless voice, Toronto-based jazz vocalist, songwriter and bandleader, Ale Avery Nunez has firm roots in jazz and soul and a true dedication to swing. On stage, she brings a musical sophistication to every performance with a tone that is uniquely her own. Her influences range from Sarah Vaughan to Carmen McRae, Nat King Cole, and the great Etta Jones.
While a relative newcomer on the scene, Ale has established herself as an in-demand vocalist and musician, already making her mark on the music scene. You can often see her perform at hallowed Toronto jazz venues such as The Rex and the Jazz Bistro, and she’s joined Canadian legends, Neil Swainson and Terry Clarke, as well as drummer Adam Arruda. Ale was featured in JazzFM91's 2024 Discover Women in Jazz series.
In Nightcrawlers, the vibe of the great 1960s Hammond B3 organ bands is very much alive and well! Inspired by Brother Jack McDuff, Big John Patton, and Booker T and the MG’s, this award-winning quintet’s gritty, soulful, swaggering music is all about stirring up a good time. Led by acclaimed drummer Jesse Cahill, this who’s who of the Vancouver jazz scene features Cory Weeds’ tenor saxophone, Dave Sikula (guitar), Jack Duncan (percussion), and Chris Gestrin behind the hefty Hammond organ.
Doors open 30 minutes prior to show, please note for some shows latecomers may not be guaranteed entry.
