BEPPE GAMBETTA is a virtuosic guitar player and an emotional singer who manages to effortlessly bridge bluegrass, Eastern European folk music, Celtic rhythms and the music of his native Italy. A remarkable musician, he almost single handedly popularized flatpicking throughout Europe, while forging his own unique approach to the guitar along the way.
Beppe Gambetta began by playing in a classical orchestra, but after hearing the music of Doc Watson on an LP that a friend brought to Genoa, he was enamored with flatpicking as the most beautiful way of playing the acoustic guitar. This led him to put together one of the first Italian bluegrass bands, Red Wine.
In 1988, Gambetta began to concentrate on a solo career. He collaborated with Tony Trischka (“the modern father of bluegrass” - NY Times) on his album Alone Together (1992) and in 2003 he teamed up with some of the world's best (Tony McManus, Don Ross and Dan Crary) to record and tour as Men Of Steel.
Today, Gambetta focuses on his solo career, touring constantly and seamlessly across the shores of two continents, Europe and America. In his unique musical approach, Gambetta blends energetic grooves with passionate melodies, giving new life to musical sources from different times, periods and places. His original compositions give contemporary influences to traditional roots music.
