Event Description

As part of Open Space's Small Press Fest programming and Vancouver's Art Book Month, Open Space and the Riso Collective present a showcase of local print publishing. From October 1-13, the Ministry of Casual Living's window gallery in Odeon Alley will be transformed into a showcase of art book and independent publishing projects. The showcase will be linked to an online listing of the works, offering the public a chance to purchase copies of zines, comics, chapbooks, and art books, to be picked up from Open Space later on in the month. All proceeds from sales will be directed solely to the artists.

This is the second year of Open Space's Small Press Fest programming, which works to celebrate and foster community around regional print publishing. The showcase is also taking place as part of Vancouver Art Book Fair's Art Book Month, a parallel series of events hosted across Vancouver and beyond by artists, curators, collectives, and institutions actively creating and presenting work in this medium. @VancouverArtBookFair @ArtBookWeek @openspacevic

The showcase will be taking place on Lekwungen territories. Open Space and the Riso Collective gratefully acknowledge the original stewards of this land who have been tending to it since time immemorial, and whose care continues to this day. As we share these projects, we are reflecting on the many ways print publishing can be used to reach across time and space and form grounded community networks. By celebrating the richness of these relational systems, we work to resist the cultural and physical dislocation of settler-colonial capitalism.

Featuring work by: SHOP TALK TRADE COMICS, The Pandora Arts Collective, Matty Cervantes / Global PAX Collective, The Sapphic Printing Press, Weird Load Projects, PRINT Victoria Society of Print Artists, lemonbabypress, moonsnail press, Soft queer journaling, empty head zine, Leah Anthony, Kaylyn Olynyk, Reid Urchison, Carol Auld, and Kerri Flannigan
