Event Description

Night Shift is when the Royal BC Museum comes alive after hours. Experience a shift in your perspective as you explore creative connections to our collections and exhibits through unique displays, special guests, entertainment, cash bar and food.

When the day turns into night at the Royal BC Museum things start to shift into something … different. On Friday, October 25 museum and community experts, inspired by archival records and our human history collection, will share stories of life and death from a Victorian point of view.

When you arrive, the sounds of DJ Primitive will lure you up the stairs to the third floor. Begin your visit or drown your sorrows with our signature cocktail. Throughout the evening take part in happenings throughout Old Town including University of Victoria Archaeologist, Erin McGuire who uncovers death as revealed in the archaeological record. Collections Manager Delphine Castles will reveal the meanings hidden in clothing of the early Victorians. Archivist Ann ten Cate will share some of the tragic stories found in the BC Coroners reports, preserved at the BC Archives. The eclectic ensemble Bučan Bučan will play music to lift our spirits.

Throughout the evening, costumed players will introduce you to characters and customs from the past that might surprise you. Just for fun, why not join a Victorian Séance and see what transpires.
