Event Description
Capital Festival BC Day Celebration welcomes everyone in Victoria and beyond to free music and entertainment, Monday, August 3rd, 11 am to dusk at St. Ann’s Academy. Bring family friends and a picnic or else enjoy our great food and culinary treats, sponsored by the Marriott Hotel. Enjoy your Capital Signature Stage, Victoria, representing the very best of BC musicians on BC Day August 3rd, supported by Festival Partner, Provincial Capital Commission and Title Sponsor, Coast Capital Savings. We will grow together into future years recognizing our great and talented BC Artists.
The Capital Festival BC Day Celebration begins with the colorful costumed White Eagle Band, playing at 11:00 am before the “Official” main stage start on the beautiful grounds at 12 noon. Festival attendees will be greeted at all gate entrances to St. Ann’s Academy with the day’s program guide. Performances will also take place inside St. Ann’s Academy.
From Noon to 4, The Children’s Area will be presented by Coast Capital Savings with Wally’s World: face painting, games and giveaways - located at the top end of our main green concert lawn near the entrance on Humboldt Street.
Throughout the day, we will run performances of diverse acoustic and classical performers inside, coinciding with the main performance stage. Inside will be phenomenal, solo flamenco guitar, Gareth Owen; solo voice, Sahara Sloan; Welsh artist Andre Bell; sitar, Christian Tatonetti; and classical young artists.
Meanwhile, on our Outside Signature Main Stage, we will feature some of the very best internationally recognized musicians and very exciting up-and coming BC talents. Two very recognized featured performers will be tenor Ken Lavigne and blues guitarist David Gogo and His Band. The Saltwater Cowboy, Alan Moberg, will delight the audience by singing beautiful British Columbia songs reflecting life on land and sea. Moving through the day, we will present colorful, costumed, cultural dance performances on the main stage featuring a very wonderful community organization, Alma de España, which feature dancers of all ages. One of Canada’s most celebrated youth ensembles The Vic High R&B Band will also perform on the main stage as a reunion of their very well publicized Martha Reeves documentary. The main stage will continue to highlight our talented BC artists representing all genres and music for all ages - we will even feature the very best local indie performers, Acres of Lions, Maurice, and Vince Vaccaro.
We will have a large colorful choir, The City of Gardens Chorus, “The Sweet Adelines”, perform while you enjoy the summer sun on your blanket or while enjoying culinary treats offered by The Marriott Hotel. Workshops/performance groups will also take part in the day’s festivities, such as Moon Dance Dynamic Arts. We will also present a Guitar Master Class in the Auditorium space, so please feel free to bring your guitar and join in. We will also have an international Jazz artist on hand to provide a workshop for wind and brass insturment players from novice to pro, or for those of you who want to have a brass or wind instrument looked over by our professionals, then please bring it with you.
Come early as Artisan vendor tables will be along both sides of the main walking path. Cultural Community Associations are invited to be on hand to share their culture like many of our performance groups on stage.
FREE BC DAY -Monday Aug. 3rd! Bring friends and family as we will provide music, fun, and entertainment for all ages from 11am to Dusk.
