Every now and then a group comes along and changes the way bands sound and look. Rock.It Boy Entertainment is proud to present Warcon Records artist HELMET with special guest DUB TRIO in concert on Monday, September 24th at The Red Room, 398 Richards Street, in Vancouver.
In an era where bands have so many labels, HELMET is often called “alternative innovator of the post hardcore punk/metal style” wherein they dropped the stock rock uniforms of conformity and adopted instead the bland t-shirt of mediocrity while belting out what is often call ‘the classiest metal ever played.” Translated, this means that they were really good, very popular and became role models for a generation of musicians.
HELMET’s forward fusion of metal, punk, indie-rock, and jazz has inspired countless bands - many that have come to define their own disparate threads of heavy rock. The HELMET sound sparked a new brand of metal, crossing all traditional music boundaries, paving the way for bands like Chevelle, Deftones, Killswitch Engage, Norma Jean and Silverchair, among many others.
HELMET was formed in New York City in 1989. The group signed to Amphetamine Reptile Records, and released their first full-length album, Strap It On, in 1991. Interscope Records signed the band in 1992 and they released five albums: Meantime (1992), Betty (1994), Aftertaste (1997) Unsung: The Best of Helmet (2004) and Size Matters (2004).
In 2006 the band went full circle, signing with a new label and then enlisting the help of collaborator and producer Wharton Tiers who produced the first two HELMET albums including the million-selling Meantime. The resulting album was Monochrome (Warcon Records 2006) a magnificent sonic dose of the old and the new, which has always been the way of this band. The current HELMET line-up is Page Hamilton (vocalist/guitarist), Jimmy Thompson (guitar), Kyle Steveson (drums) and Jon Fuller on the bass
There is a special bonus here for all those lovers of the dub-style. New York based DUB TRIO deliver serious crunching live dub grooves interspersed with metal punk and are simply superb.
