East Kootenay News Online Weekly (e-KNOW) is a free daily newspaper from the East Kootenays only locally-owned regional community news provider. We serve the communities of Cranbrook, Kimberley, Elk Valley (Fernie, Sparwood & Elkford), Columbia Valley (Canal Flats, Fairmont Hot Springs, Windermere, Invermere & Radium Hot Springs), Ktunaxa Nation and all the communities in-between.

E-KNOW is an organic entity, providing daily news about regional politics, news, community, sports, arts and entertainment, travel and tourism, Kootenay Life, Flyers/Services, Events, Obituaries, Contests and Public Hearings.

e-KNOW publishes an online-only news publication which is updated daily and sends out a weekly update e-news on the top stories in the region for the past week and breaking stories.

e-KNOW gives FREE access to the website, free subscriptions, and free community events listings.

e-KNOW is owned and operated by professional journalist Ian Cobb & Carrie Schafer. Ian has been working in the East Kootenay since 1991. Ian has over 30 years experience working in community newspapers in the East Kootenay and Sunshine Coast as a reporter/photographer and editor. He also served as a SAIT Journalism program advisor. Ian is one of the most peer honoured community journalists in Canada in that time with over 40 awards for journalism, photojournalism and newspaper/magazine general excellence.

The aim with East Kootenay News Online Weekly (e-KNOW) is to create a classic regional community newspaper that brings old school journalism to the new frontier, meaning there is no gratuitous corporate interference in the product — which is all about need-to-know information, being a lively forum of regional voices and home to the best photojournalism in the Kootenays. Our viewers are diverse, connected, technology-and media-savvy and form the backbone of the region’s economy. Our on-the-spot coverage has resulted in viewers checking with us for news—first and repeatedly. Our site is made possible from the support of regional advertisers.
